Gil Cabrera, founder of The Cabrera Firm, has practiced law in San Diego for over twenty-five years.

 
 

With over twenty-five years of experience, Mr. Cabrera has successfully represented some of the largest companies in the country, as well as small and emerging local businesses and individuals. He has represented clients before government agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission, the United States Department of Justice and the California Attorney General's Office. He is admitted to practice law before all state and federal courts in California and the United States Supreme Court. 


Prior to forming The Cabrera Firm, Mr. Cabrera was a senior associate with Cooley Godward Kronish LLP and an associate with Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP, where he specialized in business litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property, employment law and white collar criminal defense.

Mr. Cabrera received his J.D. from Boston College in 1997 where he served as Notes Editor for the Third World Law Journal and was a Presidential Scholar. Mr. Cabrera received his B.A. in Political Science from California State University, Fullerton in 1994.

In January 2021, Mr. Cabrera was appointed to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Board of Directors by San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria — serving as Chair since August 2021 after being appointed to that role by Mayor Gloria.  He also serves on the Sharp Healthcare Board of Directors, currently serving as its Immediate Past Chair.  Mr. Cabrera also presently serves on the Board of Directors of Alliance for Hope International.

Mr. Cabrera is the former Chair of the San Diego Convention Center Board of Directors, a former Co-Chair for the US District Court for the Southern District's Lawyer Representative Panel to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and a former Chair and Commissioner of the City of San Diego Ethics Commission, which monitors and enforces the City's governmental campaign finance and ethics laws and proposes new governmental ethics law reforms. Mr. Cabrera also served as the Co-Chair of the San Diego Chief of Police's Use of Force Task Force in 2000-2001, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego and Member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America National Board of Directors. He is a 2001 graduate of LEAD San Diego.
